Letters and receipt, 1795, 1820-1830.

Collection consists of single letters addressed to: a former student, tracing the development of his pupil and admonishing him to continue to follow the example of David and Poussin (1820); Mme. Denis Odevaere, expressing condolences for the loss of her husband and stressing their mutual admiration for Jacques-Louis David (1830); a M. Debunne, requesting an admission card to the Louvre for his student Henri de Caisne (n.d.); and the members of the "Conseil de Discipline," attesting to the diligence of his pupil Charles-Auguste van den Berghe (1826). With a fragment of an essay commenting on Colbert and the origins of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts (n.d.). Plus a receipt for a painting "la Republique Francaise" in Genoa, giving the price (1795 May 26).
